Compassion fatigue and secondary traumatic stress in teachers: How they contribute to burnout and how they are related to trauma-awareness

Introduction Teachers play an integral role in providing positive life experiences for their students and are especially crucial who experiencing or have experienced a trauma lives. In Australia however, teachers increasingly stating that they do not plan on remaining the profession causing media governments to warn of teacher shortage. Several key factors attrition been proposed, with burnout being described as contributing factor). Studies which focused specifically teachers’ working histories suggested links between lack trauma-aware training increased levels compassion fatigue (CF), secondary traumatic stress (STS), burnout. Methods This paper draws established research into CF, STS well awareness using narrative topical approach explore challenges faced by post-covid landscape. Results The results this review suggest need additional impact traumatized student body. Conclusion trauma-specific reported pre-service current indicate higher education institutions schools better prepare support while safeguarding own wellbeing.
